Herding Filter Technology reliably protects people and the environment from harmful production emissions while enabling the pure and contamination-free recovery of valuable materials. Since 1977, durability, energy efficiency, and resource conservation have been at the core of our technologies – an active contribution to clean air and the responsible use of resources. Our filter elements are characterized by exceptionally long service life: depending on the process, they can achieve operating periods of more than 15 years before the first regeneration. This makes a significant contribution to environmental protection and resource conservation.
With EMAS certification and the third validation of our environmental management system, Herding® Filter Technology demonstrates its continuous commitment to environmental and climate protection. The European environmental management system supports us in measurably improving processes and ensuring transparency in ecological performance indicators.
Furthermore, in 2024 Herding® Filter Technology reached an important milestone by transitioning to PFAS-free filter media, expanding the portfolio with systems made from CO₂-reduced steel, and increasing the use of renewable energy at our Amberg site.
These developments combine technological innovation with concrete measures to enhance resource efficiency and form the foundation for sustainable growth.

Sustainability at Herding Filtertechnik – with a System
Herding® Filtertechnik has been validated under the European environmental management system EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) since 2022. The third validation in 2025 once again confirms our consistent environmental management – from energy efficiency and waste management to CO2 reduction.
The EMAS quality seal of the European Union stands for:
- Holistic environmental management in accordance with EU Regulation No. 1221/2009
- Regular external audits carried out by independent environmental assessors
- Transparent environmental indicators and clearly defined objectives
- Continuous improvement of environmental performance and resource efficiency
The current Herding EMAS Environmental Statement provides a transparent overview of our key environmental goals, the progress achieved, and planned measures. It clearly illustrates how ecological responsibility is embedded in our daily operations and outlines the developments planned for the coming years. The brochure offers concise data, clear metrics, and in-depth insights into essential environmental aspects – a solid basis for anyone interested in demonstrably effective environmental management.

Herding takes a holistic approach to reducing the environmental footprint of its own operations. By combining durable filtration technology with thoughtful material selection and continuous process optimization, we create the foundation for reliable and transparent CO₂ reductions. The use of regenerative energy sources further strengthens this path, helping us steadily lower emissions and move toward a more sustainable future.

Circular Economy in Practice
Efficient resource use through pure sorting, product recovery, and filter regeneration
Unlike conventional filter media, which must be replaced and disposed of after a short period of use, the Herding® Sinter-Plate Filter stands out for its exceptionally long service life and minimal wear. For over 30 years, used filter elements have been returned to the company, cleaned, recoated, and put back into operation. This allows the filters to be used for up to 20, 25, or even 30 years.
Instead of a profit-driven spare parts strategy, the company pursues a sustainable approach, even in the spare parts segment. To further strengthen regeneration and the circular economy, the company is increasingly focusing on the development of pure-sorted filter elements. Since 2024, it has been the world’s first manufacturer to offer all polymer-based filter elements completely PFAS-free. This sets new standards for environmental protection and sustainability, highlighting the company’s innovation and leading role in the industry.
